Nestled in southwest Montana and winding through the northwestern part of Wyoming lies a 68 mile scenic byway named The Beartooth All-American Road.
Lot’s of switch backs, crazy climbs and beautiful views are just part of what one may find while driving and exploring this scenic byway.
“It is one of the highest and most rugged areas in the lower 48 states, with 20 peaks reaching over 12,000 feet in elevation. In the surrounding mountains, glaciers are found on the north flank of nearly every mountain peak over 11,500 feet high. The Road itself is the highest elevation highway in Wyoming (10,947 feet) and Montana (10,350 feet), and is the highest elevation highway in the Northern Rockies.” As per the Bear Tooth Highway website – this website also shows road condition reports, maps, and more to help you plan your trip.
We needed more time! After spending two nights on the Beartooth, we knew we needed more time to explore the area – Starting with Red Lodge. What a cool little town and a gateway to the Beartooth. Ending with Cooke City MT and Cody WY before we entered Yellowstone NP.
Maybe it is a bucket list item or just interesting to see from the comforts of home, either way our hope is you watch our video and it helps one have a better understanding of the highway and surrounding area.
Have you ever been on the Beartooth? Would love to read about your experience or if you have any suggestions for others who may be thinking of going.
